Social Skills Coaching FAQ | How It Works & Fees

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Social Skills Coach?

A Social Skills Coach helps individuals build the practical skills needed to navigate everyday social situations with greater confidence and success. This may include understanding conversations, reading social cues, managing friendships, handling workplace interactions, improving communication, recognizing body language, navigating conflict, building independence, and much more. Unlike simply talking about social situations, coaching focuses on learning, practicing, and applying skills in real-life situations.

Who will benefit from Social Skills Coaching?

Social Skills Coaching can benefit children, teens, and adults who experience challenges in social situations or who would like additional support developing confidence and connection with others. Many clients come to coaching because they want help with:

  • Making and maintaining friendships
  • Understanding social cues
  • Starting and joining conversations
  • Managing anxiety in social situations
  • Building workplace or school-related social skills
  • Developing greater independence
  • Improving self-awareness and self-confidence
  • Navigating dating and relationships
  • Understanding perspectives different from their own
  • Some clients have autism, ADHD, social anxiety, or other diagnoses, while others simply want extra support in developing social confidence and communication skills.

What happens during a session?

Every session is interactive and individualized.
Depending on the client’s goals, sessions may include:

  • Conversations and guided discussions
  • Role-playing real-life situations
  • Practicing social scenarios
  • Perspective-taking activities
  • Problem-solving exercises
  • Visual supports and coaching tools
  • Video modeling and feedback
  • Virtual Reality experiences (when appropriate)
  • The goal is to create opportunities for learning, practice, reflection, and growth in a supportive environment.

How are sessions conducted?

Sessions are available both virtually and in person, depending on location and availability.
Virtual sessions are conducted through a secure video platform and often include screen-sharing, interactive activities, role-playing, and coaching exercises.
In-person sessions may incorporate additional hands-on activities and opportunities for practicing skills in natural settings when appropriate.

How are the social skills lessons structured?

Lessons are tailored to the individual’s goals, strengths, and areas of growth.
Typically, sessions include:

  1. Reviewing progress and experiences since the previous session
  2. Introducing or revisiting a specific social skill
  3. Practicing the skill through guided activities
  4. Applying the skill to real-life situations
  5. Developing strategies to continue practicing between sessions
Skills are introduced at a pace that is comfortable and appropriate for each client.

Do you use uniform plan for each client?

No.
Every client is unique, and coaching plans are individualized based on age, strengths, challenges, goals, learning style, and life circumstances.
Some clients focus on conversation skills, while others may work on friendships, workplace interactions, emotional awareness, perspective-taking, dating, independence, or self-advocacy.
Coaching is personalized to meet each client where they are and support meaningful growth over time.
